Dental sleep medicine is a team discipline, and continuing education should reflect that. The TDSS Dental Sleep Medicine Practice Certification offers AGD PACE-approved CE hours to every member of the dental team who participates, not just the dentist.

01Who This Program Is For

Dental sleep medicine cannot be built on clinical skill alone. A thriving DSM practice requires an aligned, trained team, one where every role understands its function in identifying patients, presenting treatment, navigating insurance, and keeping patients engaged through long-term follow-up.

The TDSS certification program is designed with that reality in mind. CE hours are available to all of the following roles:

Dentist / Practice Owner

Leads clinical decisions and DSM integration. Uses the program to design workflows, referral relationships, and medical billing systems that support predictable practice growth.

Dental Hygienist

Screens patients for signs of sleep-disordered breathing during hygiene visits, introduces oral appliance therapy, and supports the dentist by identifying candidates for further evaluation.

Practice / Office Manager

Oversees DSM system implementation across the practice, aligning scheduling, team roles, and operations so sleep medicine becomes a reliable and profitable service line.

Treatment / Sleep Coordinator

Manages consultations, case presentation, and financial arrangements. Guides patients from initial screening through appliance delivery and long-term follow-up.

Insurance / Billing Specialist

Handles medical benefit verification, Medicare and VA workflows, and sleep-related claims, applying proper documentation and coding for fair reimbursement.

Front Desk / Patient Care Coordinator

Manages inbound sleep inquiries, new patient intake, questionnaires, and outbound follow-up. Coordinates communication with referring physicians and sleep centers.

Important

Any dentist or team member in these roles can earn CE hours as long as they personally fulfill the participation and completion requirements for each module. CE credit is issued individually, not to the practice as a whole.

02How the CE Structure Works

The certification is delivered as a multi-session program designed to build a complete DSM business and clinical system over time. Each session, or module, covers one focused DSM topic and is built around three integrated components that together constitute the CE contact hours for that module.

Live Zoom Training Session

Approximately 45 minutes of real-time instruction, discussion, and implementation guidance focused on a specific DSM topic such as workflows, patient screening, billing systems, or referral development. Attendance at the live session is required and is monitored through Zoom attendance reporting.

Required Self-Instruction

Approximately 45 minutes of assigned reading, training manuals, implementation tasks, or training videos. These assignments are designed to help the dentist and team apply the material immediately to their own practice, and they are not optional extras. Self-instruction is a formal component of the CE contact hours.

Quiz and Course Evaluation

Approximately 15 minutes to complete a short quiz confirming understanding of key module concepts, along with a course evaluation. Both must be submitted in full. The quiz must meet the required passing score set by TDSS.

Dental sleep medicine is a team sport, and this program is structured to train and credential every player on the field.

03Requirements to Earn CE Hours

CE credit is earned individually. Every dentist or team member who wants to receive CE hours must personally satisfy all of the following requirements for each module they wish to claim.

Individual Registration

Each participant must be registered under their own name and email address. When a practice enrolls a group, the office provides a list of participants, with names, roles, and email addresses, to TDSS. CE hours are never issued to the practice on behalf of attendees; each certificate reflects the individual's own record of participation.

Live Session Attendance

Because multiple team members from the same practice often share a single computer during live sessions, Zoom attendance reports alone cannot confirm who was physically present. To ensure that every individual receives accurate credit, each practice must submit a session roster for every module they attend.

The roster must list the full name and email address of every team member who was present for the full session, along with a confirmation that each attendee remained for the entire instructional period. Rosters should be submitted to TDSS promptly after the session concludes. CE hours will not be issued to individuals who are not listed on a submitted roster, regardless of whether the practice account was logged in.

Use the attendance roster below to record who was present. Check the box next to each team member who remained for the full presentation, then print and submit the completed roster to TDSS.

Self-Instruction Completion

All required reading, manuals, videos, or implementation materials assigned for the module must be completed within the timeframe specified. These assignments count toward CE contact hours and carry the same weight as live attendance.

Quiz and Evaluation Submission

Both the module quiz (at or above the required passing score) and the course evaluation must be submitted in full. Neither component can be skipped; CE hours will not be awarded if either is missing.

Deadline Policy

All module components, live session, self-instruction, quiz, and evaluation, must be completed within the published deadline for that module. Late or incomplete participation can result in no CE hours being granted for that module, even if some components were finished.

04CE Certificates and Documentation

Participants who fulfill all requirements for a given module will receive a CE certificate that includes their name, the program or session title, the date(s) and delivery methods, the number of CE hours earned, the applicable AGD subject codes and course type, and the required AGD PACE provider statement and branding.

Participants who complete the entire TDSS Dental Sleep Medicine Practice Certification series receive a cumulative certificate reflecting total CE hours earned through the full program.

Record Keeping

Practices and participants should retain their certificates and documentation for licensure and professional development records. TDSS maintains course records and attendance verification in accordance with AGD PACE requirements.

05How to Enroll Your Team

Enrolling the full team is straightforward. Practices that want to register multiple participants can submit a list of team members, including names, roles, and email addresses, to TDSS. Individual registration links and module access are then distributed to each participant directly.

If you have questions about the number of CE hours available for specific modules, whether a particular team role qualifies for the program, or how to structure enrollment for a larger practice group, contact TDSS directly for guidance tailored to your situation.

06Key Takeaways for Your Practice

  • The TDSS certification offers AGD PACE-approved CE hours to every team role, dentist, hygienist, coordinator, billing specialist, and front desk alike, making it one of the most comprehensive team-based DSM education programs available.
  • Each module is structured as a blended learning experience, live Zoom instruction, required self-study, and a quiz/evaluation, ensuring that CE credit reflects genuine participation and skill development.
  • CE hours are issued individually. Every team member who completes the required components receives their own certificate; the practice alone cannot claim credit on behalf of attendees.
  • Practices completing the full series earn a cumulative certificate that documents total program hours, a meaningful credential for both professional development records and state licensure compliance.
  • To get started, contact TDSS to confirm team member eligibility, discuss module timing, and arrange group enrollment for your practice.
